For the writer in all of us

PENMAN By Butch Dalisay
The Philippine STAR 09/05/2005
I had a great time last week speaking before my youngest audience ever
– a group of exceptionally bright children attending a special school,
the Little Farm House Holistic Education and Development Center in
Beverly Hills, Taytay. Part classroom, part garden, part zoo, and part
laboratory, the HEDCen, as it’s called, caters to a small community (or
a large family, if you will) of 300 students and teachers for whom
personalized instruction is the norm. The school has grown along with
the students, so there’s a junior high school class, but no seniors yet
– but there are kids galore, happy hordes of them eager to show off the
school’s pet python, ferret, and iguanas.
Live 365
This is a super astig website find, mga kaibigan. Check out Live365 Internet Radio
for a way, way better deal than Yahoo Launchcast! Maraming categories
to choose from, at sa mga category na ‘yun, maraming stations ang
listed. You’re listening to radio stations talaga, so mawawala ‘yung
pagkabato mo minsan.
What I really enjoy is the seemingly endless choices. And all for free,
too! You’ll need something like iTunes or some other thing for the
streaming audio to play in (Windows Media Player, di pwede). ‘Wag
mag-alala, ide-detect naman ‘yan ng computer eh. Relaks lang.
And enjoy the music!
Giyera sa Kuwadra
Wednesday, September 7, 2005GIYERA SA KUWADRA
I-Witness ni Sandra Aguinaldo
Lunes: September 12, 2005
Joni Mitchell
Not really sure if I should put Joni Mitchell and all things Joni Mitchell
under the heading “popular culture etc” — the Joni Mitchell lovers might
react violently. Nevertheless, I just want to say a few things about Joni
Mitchell.
1. I only heard her, truly heard her, through the movie Love Actually.
2. And I liked her immediately.
3. I love ate Shawie, but her rendition of “Both Sides Now” is a paltry
comparison to Joni Mitchell’s soulful original. Almost a sacrilege.
4. There is this mp3 in the office’s random selection, “Electricity,” that I
really like.
5. I’m therefore coming to the conclusion that I can use a bit more Joni
Mitchell exposure.
6. Anyone want to share Joni Mitchell mp3s? I promise to repay you with some
of my own mp3s. You can choose from a vast array of classics ranging from
John Mayer to Hotdog to Beatles to Tina Paner.
Welcome back, I.Ph!
Monday, September 5, 2005I got a newsletter today from I.Ph saying that finally, the
company has seen the light and will provide free service for life (and
not for a meager three months only). So I guess that means Hello I.Ph
again for me!
Goodbye, I.Ph!
Tuesday, June 28, 2005I’m moving back to my old home. After a short stint in this apartment, I’ve realized that there are too many glitches for someone who wants a simple blog to rant in (hihintayin ko nalang na maayos nila ang mga problema nila sa sarili nila bago ako makidagdag ng problema ko), the interface is too confusing for someone who just wants something equivalent to tacking notes on the bulletin board, and bottomline is: don’t believe what you see on their home page. I.Ph is not free. When they tell you that you can sign up for a “free” blog, they actually really mean a “trial version” blog. Because after two months, they’ll evict you.
So Blogspot, I’m coming home!
Canada Day
Happy Canada Day to all of us who are Canadians!
Ayan. May silbi na ang Canada
Day.
Here’s a snippet from the embassy’s press release:
Film enthusiasts will be in for a treat as the Embassy of Canada
together with the University of the Philippines’ Film Institute puts
together the Canadian Documentary Festival featuring four outstanding
full-length documentaries written and produced by Canadian directors.
The festival will open with the premiere screening of the “Shake Hands
with the Devil,” a heart-wrenching first-hand account of the genocide
in Rwanda. This will be screened on Wednesday, July 6, 4pm at the
Cine Adarna Videotheque at the UP Film Institute. Admission is free on
a first-come, first-seated basis. Other documentaries to be screened
are “Turbulent Waters,” a story of a Filipino shipping crew’s
adventures in Vancouver; “Under One Sky: Arab Women from East to West
talk about the Hijab (veil),” and “Referendum,” a historical
documentary on the Quebec separatist plebiscite held in the 90’s.

Cineplex 10, here I come
Ayus!
I’m sorry, Philippines!
Monday, June 27, 2005What follows is the full text of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s statement on June 27, 2005 on the issue of the tape recordings:
Mga Minamahal kong Kababayan,
For the last several weeks, the issue of the tape recordings has spun out of control. Tonight, I want to set the record straight. You deserve an explanation; from me, because you are the people I was elected to serve.
